5 Days at...Corriefodly Holiday Park

Welcome to the second of our new blog series '5 Days at...'. The blog will explore the wide range of activities and attractions near each of our Holiday Parks, that you could enjoy during a midweek break. This blog will look at Corriefodly Holiday Park.

Monday - Take in a round of golf

There are several stunning golf courses right on your doorstep when you stay at Blairgowrie Holiday Park that offer something for everyone, from the casual player to the serious golfer. Closest to the Park are Blairgowrie Golf Club (featuring two 18-hole Championship courses, as well as the 9-hole Wee Course); Alyth Golf Club (an 18-hole heathland layout); and Strathmore Golf Club (18-hole and 9-hole course, as well as a covered driving range). All 3 golf courses have a club house that offer a variety of food and refreshments (please check directly with the clubs for opening times). Discounts are available at both Alyth and Strathmore for Wood Leisure Guests.

Tuesday - Visit Dunkeld and Birnam

The historic villages of Dunkeld and Birnam are joined by the bridge that spans the River Tay, and are a little over 30 minutes from Corriefodly Holiday Park by car. Dunkeld is dominated by it's Cathedral, which is now part ruin and part Parish church, and well worth a visit. A walk across the bridge will take you to Birnam, it's wood made famous by Shakespeare's 'Macbeth'. Birnam is also home to the Beatrix Potter Exhibition; Potter, the author of Tales of Peter Rabbit, drew inspiration for her stories during her many trips to the village. A short journey across the A9 takes you to The Hermitage, where you can see the waterfalls, stroll along the river bank and enjoy forest walks among the tallest Douglas Firs in the UK.Hermitage-1_142450770.jpg

Wednesday – Soak up some local history
From cotton mills to palaces of kings and queens, you are bound to find something to satisfy your thirst for knowledge! Many places also host events and festivals throughout the year, so be sure to check their websites before you visit. Local attractions include:
Stanley Mills – The former cotton mill is one of the best-preserved relics of the Industrial Revolution of the late 1700s. Today you can enjoy a hi-tech visitor experience, where interactive displays tell the stories of those who worked here and the products they made.
Glamis Castle - Glamis Castle has been the ancestral seat to the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne since 1372, the childhood home of HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and birthplace of HRH The Princess Margaret. Glamis also hosts various events throughout the year, from outdoor cinema to Christmas markets.
Scone Palace - Scone Palace has an exciting and colourful history as one of Scotland's most important stately homes. It has been the seat of parliaments and the crowning place of the Kings of Scots, including Macbeth and Robert the Bruce.

Thursday – Fishing
Corriefodly Holiday Park sits on the banks of the River Ardle, and trout fishing is available on the park. We are privileged to also be within a few miles of some of the best fishing in Scotland. The River Ericht flows through Blairgowrie and is an excellent river for salmon, trout and grayling in season, while the River Isla is just a couple of miles away and again, offers superb fishing and a variety of species. There are a number of productive lochs in the area, and species include trout and pike. Visitors can buy permits for both the rivers and the lochs in the area from Kate Fleming in Blairgowrie, and they can provide equipment on hire, ghillie services, and advice if needed - as well as offering a discount to Wood Leisure guests.

Friday – Visit Persie Gin Distillery
Persie Gin is our local tipple here at Corriefodly, with the distillery less than 3 miles from the park! Persie Gin has three distinct styles of aromatic gin: fruity gin, savory gin and sweet gin. We stock Persie Gin at the Woodside Bar at Corriefodly; if you would like to visit the distillery for one of the tasting tours, then they offer a complimentary shuttle bus from the park (subject to availability). Remember that Wood Leisure guests get a discount from the gift shop after your tour!
